My previous attempt at doing a web site (the Savings Assistant) was successful in that I learned a bit about how to develop the sites. That site however has a few limitations:
- Usability was lacking on the site, and I lost interest in further development.
- The number of people that would actually think to search out and use the service is too low.
Colum gave me a good idea yesterday which got me thinking about doing a website that would advertise rental properties around the Vancouver area. It would be modeled on the www.rentfaster.ca website that is apparently very popular in Calgary.
I remember that when I was looking for a place to rent in Vancouver it was very hard because there was no good central place to get all the information. There were a few people that listed on craigslist, and everyone else had websites that marketed their own properties only. I’m thinking that it would actually be pretty easy to put the website together. The hard part would be to do all the marketing required to get content.
Over the next week I’m going to think about it some more and do some research.
