yesterday I picked up a copy of iLife ’09 for Mac. What a great piece of software.
iLife, if you’re not familiar with it, is a collection of 4 applictions – iPhoto, GarageBand, iMovie, and iDVD. They are kind of the flagship applications from Apple to show how great applications should look and behave. So they put a lot of polish into them.
The killer new feature in iPhoto is Face Recognition. and it works pretty well. It automatically finds faces in the photos you have and then you can tag them, and it finds more photos with that person it it for you. It also has a new map view of the photos which will overlay the photos you have with where they were taken on a map.
GarageBand is a multi-track music recorder. They have hundreds of high quality instruments samples, and music loops. I use it with my midi keyboard to lay down tracks. One of the cool new features is lessons. They have 8 basic lessons for each of piano and guitar plus they have a bunch of learn this song from the artist videos you can buy where you get someone like Sting to teach you how to play guitar for one of his songs. Very Cool.
I haven’t had time to play with iMovie yet. I don’t know if I have enough hard drive space to mess with creating big movies. 🙁
More to explore. Definitely a good purchase.
