Went to the dealership today expecting to check on the prices and see what the financing options would be like.
4 hours later I rode home on my new 2009 Suzuki V-Strom DL650SEA.
Sometimes it’s nice to buy things from people that know how to sell things. This was one of those cases. Within 5 minutes of walking into the store the sales guy was getting me set up for a test ride. A couple of hours (including a break for lunch to wait for the paperwork to get finished) and just a few signatures were all that I needed to drive home on the new machine.
Now I have a way to get around the city without relying on public transit and if the weather is good next week it just may get used for the camping trip to Alice Lake. To make sure I get my money’s worth out of this, I’m going to have to schedule in some trips.
So why the V-Strom with the luggage package? There’s two big reasons. It is my primary vehicle so taking it to the store and bringing stuff home is one of the major uses, and also multi-day trips with camping gear. The V-Strom is very capable on the highway and seems comfortable enough for long rides. It also has some technical features that are usually only found on much more expensive bikes. It is fuel injected so there’s no choke to deal with and difficult cold starts and it has ABS brakes which is not a very popular feature for motorcycles.
It’s definitely not the prettiest bike, but it seems to get good reviews and at a good price.
Here are some of the first pictures of it.
Now I just need to put some Kms on it to break in the new tires.
