For the last few days I’ve been thinking about going for a Linux Certification. Specifically I’ve been looking at the Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC) and then the Ubuntu specific certificate. Not sure how valuable the thing is though… especially after picking up the study guide which is really very basic Linux stuff.
It would take 3 seperate exams, each costing between $100-$200. So it’s actually pretty reasonably priced. There is a much more expensive (and fun) RHCE test that’s done by Red Hat where for the final test they give you a bare machine and get you to configure it, but it costs $2500.
Either way it would be an interesting thing to have done and I might actually learn something. So I picked up a study book and will be going though it over the next month or so.
Now that I think about it, it would be better if I scheduled a time to write the exam and actually committed.
