Mark V Shaney was a internet Usenet user that posted to net.singles in the 80’s. But it was actually a clever program that used Markov Chains to create posts. It was clever enough to trick several people.
I decided to write my own Mark V Shaney program for twitter. After a few false starts due to the cryptic and multi-language nature of twitter causing some unreadable tweets, I settled on filtering out just those tweets related to the US government to use as source material for my automated tweets.
The script listens to a live stream of tweets from twitter, filters them and stuffs them in a database. After just a few hours running today I collected over 7000 tweets.
the results read very strangely, but hopefully as I build more of a database of tweets the oddities should smooth out.
