From time to time I try to change my diet and see what the effects are.
Last year I ate only meat for one month – no vegetables, fruit, chocolate, or candy. It was probably my most intense dietary experiment to date.
Since then I have taken on some smaller changes to test different things. In January I tried the slo-carb diet as described by Tim Ferriss in 4-Hour-Body, but it didn’t have the effect I was looking for.
For the past 6 weeks I have been trying a low-carb protein shake for breakfast hoping that the low carb and high protein shake would keep my carbs down but hold off hunger until lunch. But from my tracking it never had the effect I needed.
Two weeks ago I read an interview with Tucker Max – the guy who wrote “I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell”. He talks about following something similar to the Paleo Diet. Which is something that I have been more reading about for the last year or more.
Tucker Max mentions that he has been eating sauerkraut with coffee for breakfast. So I’m going to try that to start with. Sauerkraut belongs to a class of foods that humans adapted very well to eating but in recent times, with the invention of the refrigerator, has essentially disappeared from our diets. It plays a more active role in providing bacteria cultures to the gut and helps keep the entire digestive system functioning optimally.
Last night I picked up 2 Liters of Sauerkraut at Costco – it was $3.34. That’s my breakfast for the next month.
This morning was my first bowl of sauerkraut… It’s going to be a long month.
