Since my bike was stolen a couple of weeks ago I have been commuting on my slow winter beater bike. Work was nice enough to let me expense a new bike so I decided to order a bike on Amazon.
The new bike is a simple fixie. The rear wheel has a gear on both sides and can be flipped to change it from a coaster to fixed. When it is using the fixed gear if you peddle backwards you go backwards. I’m anxious to try that out.
There’s something appealing about a simple bike like this. Fewer parts means less to break or maintain. No gears means no dérailleurs and the chain can be pulled tight. Nothing shakes or rattles.
I’m looking forward to riding to work for the first time tomorrow.
