For the last couple of months I have been watching Star Trek again – Next Generation, Enterprise and Voyager so far. There were two things that really struck me coming back to watch them again after all these years.
- There’s a lot of episodes.
- Star Trek Voyager – 172 Episodes
- The Next Generation – 178 Episodes
- Enterprise – 98 Episodes
- A lot of the star trek vision became part of my core beliefs
I don’t know of any other shows on TV that have ever been written with so broad of a set of ideas. There’s references to history, physics, logic problems, diplomacy, leadership, security, engineering, romance and literature. Moral lessons are translated to give new perspectives.
I’m cautiously optimistic about the new Star Trek Discovery Series. There’s a lot of good TV content out there to compete with and Sci-Fi is traditionally expensive to produce. I really hope it does well enough that they can keep it going long enough to explore some new ideas and inspire a new generation of kids with an optimistic future.
