Getting more use of my 3D Printer. I was looking for something to do with my hands over the weekend and found a nice project for building a geodesic dome.
They are fascinating structures. ridged and lightweight, and I’ve wanted to build one for a while. Unfortunately I don’t have the space for a full-sized building or even a kids-sized play-fort. So a model will do.
It’s interesting to do it for real and not just read about it. from looking at it, it is easy to miss the detail that about half of the joins are 5-way and half are 6 way ones. To accommodate the differences there are also two sizes of sticks with a shorter one that is 90% the length of the long ones.
Gotta say that having a 3d printer around makes it possible to build things that otherwise wouldn’t be feasible at home.
