After a bit of procrastination, I’m getting around to thinking through some of my goals for 2021 at the end of January.
2020 was a significant year for many reasons, but a result of everything that happened 2 things fell by the wayside which I need to spend significant attention on in 2021.
- Health – Working from home, and with very little free time to spare my exercise basically went to zero. As a result I gained some weight and have been been feeling stressed out and shitty more than usual. 2021 has to be focused on dedicating some time every day to working out. So far in January that has been accomplished with a sweat inducing VR session playing BeatSaber. In addition to exercise I also need to find a way to snack less.
- Vacation – Around mid-2020 when it became obvious we were not going to have a family vacation I started to set aside money from every paycheck for a next year vacation fund so that we could do something great. By spring or summer there will be enough to go on a long trip somewhere. More than ever I think I’m in need of some time-off, so I want to make sure we have some time to disconnect from computers and explore.
Financially, I don’t have any goals per say, but it’s shaping up to be a significant year one way or the other.
As for major purchases, This year kind of needs to be the year that we tackle the exterior updates on the house – remove the brick, remove the siding, air seal everything, add external insulation that extends below grade, update the old windows and re-clad the house on all sides. It’s a massive project but a required first step before we can re-design the basement or upgrade the furnace and air system.
Personal projects on deck for this year include, practicing welding, building a custom console table, build a motor from scratch, record more videos, collecting canadian manufacturer database and building a small emergency power solar system.
